Review: Art of Unit Testing by Roy Osherove
published on 11/2/2008 6:57:19 PM
I had the honor to review “
Art of Unit Testing
” by
Roy Osherove
. I have to say that this is the best book on the subject of unit testing. Roy is a well known celebrity in unit testing domain and knows what he is talking about.
One thing I was afraid of that Roy would choose TypeMock instead of RhinoMocks but he made a wise choice when he presented RhinoMocks as the primary mocking framework specially, when he works for TypeMock.
Roy also shed some light on automating the unit test. He talks about continuous integration, build server, source control and code coverage.
In the book Roy also explains different ways of created Stubs and Mocks and the differences between the two. In the last chapters he talks about steps you can take to implement test driven development in your work environment.
I think one of the things I missed from the book was Introduction to Behavior Driven Development. This would have been a nice chapter in which the author would have talked about the test naming convention BDD style and also how a class becomes the context for the test.
Overall this is the best book I read about unit testing. The primary reason is that it is written by the author who has used unit testing in the real world.
What are you waiting for go get the book right now!!
